Hello Fall!
By: Payton McKelvey
The leaves are starting to fall all around us, and it is slowly changing into that beautiful season of red, orange, and yellow. Fall may be seen as a downer for some because it leads straight into winter, but I believe that everyone should give fall a chance to enchant them. There is a certain kind of magic that comes with the fall season: a warm and wonderful feeling joined by thoughts of cozy sweaters, pumpkins, and delicious fall scents. In case that doesn’t sway you quite yet on the idea of fall, I’m going to tell you all about some fun fall activities to do in and around the Edmonton area.
One of my favourite things to do every fall season is to make a fall bucket list! So, I’m going to give you a few different fun ideas to start off your own fall bucket lists right. The first idea is a classic– go and visit a pumpkin patch! This is a great opportunity to bring friends or family and participate in an exciting day of picking your own unique pumpkins and taking awesome fall photos. Next on the list is an activity similar to a pumpkin patch but brings many more engaging things to do to the table. ‘The Edmonton Corn Maze’ is just outside the Edmonton area and definitely more than worth the drive out there. Daily admission will get you access to their corn maze, petting zoo, jumping pillows, and the overall farm area. They also have a train for the littles that you can purchase a ride on, as well as a spud gun where you can blast potatoes at targets for just a couple extra dollars. During this time of year the corn maze also has a wide variety of pumpkins to purchase and an adorable farm fresh store with tons of goodies inside. The design of the corn maze changes each year and is overall fun for all, so why not take a chance and go get lost.
Next up on the list are a couple of activities that involve a little less driving, as I’m aware that not all of our students have easy access to transportation methods. Why not try doing a fun fall photoshoot with your friends or family? It’s a wonderful way to capture the beauty of fall and to preserve your memories for years to come. One great place to take fall photos is ‘Borden Park,’ which happens to be a 2 minute walk from Concordia; check it out and take some photos with the colourful falling leaves. Lastly, to finish off our bucket list ideas, why not try having a picnic? A picnic is a great way to make a meal a little more interesting and enjoy the fall scenery in the process. All you really need to make it happen is a blanket and some lunch; even something from the cafeteria works great!
Why not give fall a chance and try out some of the activities mentioned, or even better, make your own fall bucket list? Have a happy fall Concordia students! And enjoy the last of the warmer weather while you can.
