A New Batch of Amazing Content
Written by: Dylan Haslam
These past few weeks have been busy for entertainment companies. With constant releases of content and products, it can be hard to keep up with it all. Firstly, in terms of product you can bring back your child-like sense of wonder with the amazing Pokémon 25th Anniversary cards that can be found at various McDonald’s restaurants around the city. These past couple weeks have also been huge for content being released on all major streaming platforms. So, if you are finding yourself in need of some quality family movies, wholesome content to watch with the family, or a binge-worthy show to help distract you from a rapidly approaching and unknown future, just sit back and let this nerd be your guide.
Firstly, Netflix came in strong with the release of “The Mitchells vs. The Machines”. This cute and family friendly movie is a great take on our dependency on technology, while also telling the story of a family that needed something like an apocalypse to start seeing eye to eye. This movie is truly great in terms of both visuals as well as content that is sure to make you laugh. Netflix also came in strong with the release of the second half of the fifth season of “Lucifer”, which has been named by fans as “Season 5B”. Summed up in a few words, this show is simply fantastic. While it is a DC show that takes part in the same universe as “Arrow”, “The Flash” and the rest of the CW network shows, as briefly shown by cameo appearance in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” cross-over event. While they may exist in the now unified timeline, “Lucifer” is its own refreshing take on the conceptualization of the devil interacting with humanity. This season is action packed and is full of the quick witted, crime solving Lucy that we have come to appreciate. I can say that for a show to give a character like Lucy the amazing character development, and relationships that they have is a true testament to the amazing writing and production done by the entire team. We started with a play by their own rules and more detached from humanity form of Lucy, but over the past few seasons he has really grown into his place within the lives of everyone he interacts and bonds with, within the setting of the story. This season really lines up the endgame of the show that will present itself in its sixth and final season.
Disney plus also delivered some amazing content which is something we can look forward to with its weekly releases. I of course am talking about the weekly episodes of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch”. Just like all his work with “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “The Mandalorian”, this work by the legendary Dave Filoni is nothing short of spectacular. It provides an entirely new side to one of the greatest stories ever told. This show follows a group of Clone Troopers that differ from the rest in that their special abilities allowed them to stay of the right side of the events of Order 66. Rather than follow orders, something about them allows them to carry on as usual and allows them to take a step back while all other clones follow through and execute the Jedi. To seasoned “Star Wars” fans and fans of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels”, you know exactly who these clones are and what special qualities they have that might prevent them from being another obedient soldier to the republic. For those readers who may not be aware of the characters and abilities I am referring to, I will let you start on amazing journey, and I hope this recommendation is enough to start that journey. The music, art, visuals and plot are outstanding, and this unique conceptualization of story really does make a difference in the way we currently have and will experience the franchise.
