A Step-by-step Guide to a Quiet Christmas Morning

By Tegan Elliott

1. There’s no need to be up early today. You have no obligations today to anyone but yourself. This is a day for you and whoever you have decided to celebrate with, be it your friends or family.

2. When you’re ready to wake up, leave your room at your own pace. You do not need to get dressed if you do not want to. Remember to put on slippers or take your favourite blanket with you for optimal coziness.

3. Start your day slowly. Maybe stretch or sit by a window for a few minutes. Take your time waking up. There’s no rush today.

4. Make your favourite breakfast and a mug of hot chocolate, as a treat. Your family should be waking up soon if they aren’t awake already. Given or chosen family, at your preference. Have your breakfast together.

5. Take a seat in the common living space of your home. Sit anywhere you like; the floor, the counter, the couch. Make yourself comfortable.

6. Put the fireplace channel on the T.V. or pull up a fireplace video on YouTube. Put on some music if you like, low in the background so you can still talk to your friends and family.

7. If you have any gifts to exchange, now is the time. Thank those present for any gifts they have given you. Read any cards out loud if you feel it appropriate.

8. Take a picture or two if you want to commemorate the morning.

9. Put any wrappings or ribbons into a bag for cleanup.

10. Congratulations! You have successfully had a quiet Christmas morning.
