Back In Business

With business slowly starting to open up as of July 1st, 2021 Cineplex is back with a bang. Cineplex has showtimes for some very popular movie franchise releases, with social distanced seating, of course. They currently have showtimes for Black Widow, The Fast and the Furious Nine, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and most importantly Boss Baby 2: Family Business. With determination in my heart, a mask on my face, and an amazing mixture of popcorn and nibs, I went out and saw this masterpiece. They say that the new Fast and Furious movie pays homage to the key theme that is family. However, I would argue that this movie does a stellar job of conveying that theme as well. This hilarious sequel to the original Boss Baby movie is action packed and at times, plays a comedic homage to The Shawshank Redemption.
The movie follows the main characters of the first movie, who are now fully grown adults. Tim, who is voiced by James Marsden, is now a family man and is always surrounded by the love and support of his family and the comfort of his overly active imagination. Ted, the boss baby himself who is voiced by Alec Baldwin is the boss in his adulthood as well. However we see as the movie progresses, fame and success doesn’t bring the same warmth that family does. This movie also features other amazing voices such as the talented Jeff Golblum who plays the role of the candy and sugar loving Dr. Armstrong. The movie also features Lisa Kudrow and Jimmy Kimmel as the grandparents, Janice and Ted Sr., as well as it features the amazing Eva Longoria.
In a twist of events both Tim and Ted find themselves turned back into their childhood states from the first movie. While Ted finds himself having to come out of retirement for one last adventure and as we remember from the first movie, Tim is the only one who remembers the course of events from the first movie. As they work together to save the day one last time, it is evident that in the years that made up their respected adulthoods the two brothers have drifted apart and are not as close as they once were.
In all honesty, this movie was well worth the wait. It was a great movie to watch for my first movie in theaters since they opened. I laughed way harder at the jokes than I should have, but that’s part of the magic. So grab yourself a popcorn, sit back and enjoy this movie that is fun for the whole family, or group of friends. I also issue the challenge of finding as many Masters of the Universe Easter eggs as possible.
