With things starting to open around our city, we are also faced with the reality that it has been a long time since we have done anything social. And what better way to get back into the swing of things than by going with your friends to the “IMAGINE VAN GOH” exhibit which is currently taking place at the Edmonton Expo Center. This amazing exhibit takes the amazing techniques used by one of the absolute best artists that the world has ever known, and fully immerses the audience through state-of-the-art projection technology.

I have always enjoyed art and even practice it regularly. I love learning new techniques and I love observing techniques used by famous artists as well. Especially techniques that convey emotion in a way that was revolutionary for the time in which they were painted. Another aspect that makes this exhibit so amazing is that they can read letters written by Vincent himself. The letters offer a brief opening to the mind of the artist and offer a bit of explanation for the subjects and people in which he chooses to paint.

This exhibit also features an array of amazing classical music to listen to as you walk around to view the multiple projections. Each wall features its own projection; however, each wall features the same theme. Themes can include self portraits, to landscapes, to even sketches. The exhibit features some very well-known paintings, but I would suggest avoiding searching up images ahead of time. This also includes avoiding Instagram and Facebook photos of the exhibit as well. I assure you this will help you preserve the magic of the art. I did my best to avoid photos prior to my scheduled visit, and I am more appreciative of the exhibit for it. The only unavoidable part of the experience is the price, but you can’t put a price on happiness. I also recommend you save some money on parking but choosing to park in the main Concordia parking lot, and simply walk over. I may give you a chance to discuss highlights of the exhibit on the way back. The coliseum Steak House is also only a five-minute walk away if you are looking to have a good meal afterwards.

Whether you are a fan of art or if you are looking for something to pass the time, this exhibit is truly one of the coolest things happening in our city. It even got extended by a month, which means that this exhibit will end just in time for Edmonton Comic Expo that is held at the same venue. This exhibit is spectacular, and it offers you the chance to learn more about one of the most influential artists of all time. So, grab your friends, parents, partners, significant others or even a friend you met on tinder and go have yourself an emotion filled day experiencing the visual depiction of one of the most tortured, beautiful, and creative souls that this world has ever fostered. Don’t forget to take pictures and on your way out don’t hesitate to Vincent Van get yourself a sketchpad at the exhibit gift shop.
