Celebrating Easter as a University Student

By Payton McKelvey

Concordia students, it is that time of year again when the big bunny comes to deliver colourful eggs. There are so many fun activities to be done around the Easter season and I’m going to tell you about them. Going the more traditional route, we always have the classic egg dyeing. This may sound cheesy and lame but we’re not kids anymore, turn that egg painting into a challenge with your friends and see who can make the best, and the worst painted eggs. What is up next you may ask? How about a classic egg hunt? Gather up a group of your friends and do a high-stakes egg hunt, whoever wins gets $20 or whatever worthy prize of your choosing. You may be thinking it’s childish now but I guarantee you will be pushing and shoving to win that egg prize once you’re in the thick of it. Another fun twist on these Easter holiday traditions is personalized Easter baskets. This a great idea to do with your friends or your significant other, just grab a basket and fill it with a few of their favourite things and candy. It can be a great surprise or a fun swap for both parties involved.

Moving on to some more out-of-the-box ideas; there are so many markets happening around this time to celebrate Easter and the smell of spring in the air. Grab a few friends or your family and go market hopping, you never know what fun and tasty treasures you may find. The Edmonton area also tends to celebrate big when it comes to holidays. The Rec Room at West Edmonton Mall is hosting a big Easter bash they like to call Eggstravaganza. You can head down there on April 7th at 10 AM for an amazing egg hunt with up to $500 in prizes and a banging brunch afterwards complete with mimosas. Tickets do come in at a whopping $43 but include all I mentioned above as well as the priceless memories you will make with your friends. Tickets are available on the Eventbrite website so head over there to secure your spot.

Lastly, our own Concordia University is hosting an egg hunt at the Magrath Campus. You may have seen some ads popping up on the TVs around campus regarding this event. You can use the QR codes on those slides to RSVP or scan the QR code at the end of this article! This event is happening on April 8th from noon to 3 PM, and friends and family are welcome to join you at this fun school-run event. For those of you juggling kids and school work, this is a great way to involve your kids in a fun activity run by your school.

Hopefully, this array of options gives you something fun to do this Easter season and gets you involved with friends and family. Wishing you, your friends, and your families the hoppiest Easter and may it be filled with fun for the whole crew!
