My name is Lauren and I've been a part of Concordia athletics for three years now. I play on the women's basketball team and I am also the Athletic representative. Now I will be writingthe athletics column for the Bolt Newspaper to keep you updated on all things sports. To start off I would like to introduce our teams. We have five active teams right now, theirseason started in the middle of October and their last league games will be at the end of February. Come out and support Thunder Athletics this year as the fans are much appreciated! This is how your teams are doing so far in their seasons: Women's Basketball 5 Wins - 0 Losses Ranked: #1 in the north Men's Basketball 3 Wins - 2 Losses Ranked: #3 in the north Men's Hockey 4 Wins - 4 Losses Ranked: #5 overall Women's Volleyball 2 Wins - 6 LossesRanked: #5 in the north Men's Volleyball3 Wins - 5 Losses Ranked: #5 in the north Badminton and curling are both tournament sports with no standings yet because their seasons are just starting up. They both have matches coming up soon with Badminton playing a tournament on November 20th at Concordia. Curling has their ACAC fall regional in Calgary on November 25th- 27th. Two of our other sports seasons are now coming to a close with Soccer and Cross country wrapping up these last few weeks. Women's Soccer had an amazing season; they made it into provincials ranked as the number one team in the north. Unfortunately, in the final they lost a tough game by one goal against the number one team in the south, the Red Deer Queens. Our Soccer girls came home with a hard fought silver medal, ending their season on the provincial podium. Another Athlete on the podium is Leonard Chesoo. This season he came in first place in three races and second in the other one. In the Men’s 8km ACAC Cross Country Championship he also placed first. He ran an outstanding time of 26 minutes and 21 seconds. On the topic of impressive accomplishments, Taylor Chamberlin placed in the top ten at the Women’s 6km ACAC Cross Country Championship. Emma Derbyshire was also up there in the rankings as she came in 11th place. Overall the Cross Country running team ended their season on a highnote this year! Our athletes have been competing very well so far and they are just getting started. There are still a lot of games left to watch and your fan support is really appreciated.
