As spring rolls in the basketball, volleyball and hockey season’s come to an end. I will give you a recap of all their championship games, starting in this edition with basketball. The weekend of March 4th, the Concordia Women’s basketball team went to provincials hosted by Lethbridge college. Unfortunately, they lost their first two games to Briercrest and Keyano that sent them home before the championship games. In the final, Red Deer beat Augustana in order to bring home the banner. The Thunder women’s basketball team had an outstanding season, but sadly it has come to an end. Thank you to all the fans who came out to the games this season, your support was amazing.
It was a hard fight between all the teams in the tournament that weekend and Concordia did not back down. Jenna Rynsky was a highlight player that weekend; receiving both the player of the game awards. In total, she scored 29 points. It was too bad Concordia was not able to get the. win, but huge congratulations to Jenna for the outstanding performance for her team that weekend. On the bright side, the Women’s basketball team did not come home empty-handed. Ry Cherniwchan was selected to be the second-team all-star for the North. We also had Kaely Bryks and Kourtney Oss selected as first-team all-stars. Kaelyn was also awarded the ACAC player of the year award for the north. And Kourtney Oss received the Rookie of the year.
Last but not least, head coach Robbie Valpreda was awarded coach of the year for the North. It is amazing to see these awesome people get the recognition they deserve for all the hard work they put in over this season, well done! All of the Thunder Athletics teams played hard this season, it is sad to see it come to an end. Congrats to all of the athletes for their accomplishments and valiant efforts this year. I know we are all looking forward to what's in store for next season.
