What is Thunder Athletics?

By: Aaron Menor

Hello, welcome to your 2023/2024 school year! As we prepare for the upcoming semester let’s take a moment to wander into the realm of collegiate athletics, specifically Thunder Athletics for the 2023/2024 season. What is Thunder Athletics? And what do they do? For starters, your Thunder Athletes compete within many sports, including individual tournament sports, such as golf, badminton, and cross country, and team sports like, basketball, volleyball, and hockey under the Alberta Collegiate Athletic Conference, commonly known as A.C.A.C., operating under the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, or the C.C.A.A. Thunder athletes regularly travel around the province competing in tournaments, events and matches against other universities and colleges. As the season progresses, Thunder athletes have a chance to compete for the A.C.A.C. banner with the eventual ambitions of reaching and winning the coveted C.C.A.A. National Trophy. Seasons start as soon as the second week of classes for sports such as golf and could end as late as March, with team sports possibly playing in nationals.
