This past pandemic year of doing online school, we may have enjoyed being at home...a little too much. The benefits of online student life vs face-to-face student life unfortunately do not coincide. The things we could eat, do, and wear have especially changed. After lasting two years in quarantine, we have adjusted to super comfortable and relaxed school and work lifestyles. As much as we miss the perks of online school, they have now turned into cons that could potentially damage us in the long run. So here are some tips for healthy habits and things we should not repeat during this in-person school year…

1. No You Can’t Wear Pajamas to School

Showing up to the virtual classroom in your best onesie or favourite worn-in sweatpants is probably not going to fly on campus. It’s time to update that wardrobe, show up in your best outfit and flaunt it if you got it.

2. You Can’t Be in Two Places at Once

Yes, the days of logging into your morning class while you're hitting the slopes in Jasper is not going to work out for you. Waking up and logging into your Google Meet 1 minute before class starts, with drool stains on your pillow and bedhead, is probably not going to work either. Don’t forget to show up to class and take pride in a sweet attendance record.

3. The Skip the Dishes Guy is not showing up to the Classroom Door.

Remember all the days of DoorDash, SkiptheDishes and UberEats? Bored at home or working hard on an assignment, the pizza delivery guy was our best friend. Healthy eating habits are back in fashion, so forget about eating pizza 3 times a day on your Lazyboy and try a salad or some pasta. It’s also important to mention that you don’t have access to the fridge all day, so the cafeteria is the next best thing to light up your life.

4. Please Wear Some Deodorant

No one wants to smell your post-workout or sweaty pits, be kind to the person sitting beside you in class and wear some deodorant. Some of us are guilty during the pandemic of delaying or avoiding shower days, so don’t forget to show up on campus smelling like your favorite body wash, and for the guys a lot of Axe body spray is better than nothing.

5. Getting a Good Night’s Sleep is a Thing

The days of staying up until 3 am on social media, watching Netflix, or gaming, and going to online class at 8 am, is a thing of the past. Sleep is crucial in affecting mood and cognitive functioning, so make sure to go to bed early and have a great sleep to maximize school, work and athletic performance!
