Halloween Movie Marathon

 By Victoria Gonzalez

I love Halloween and all things spooky and scary. Since me and my significant other shares this passion, Halloween is the perfect time for our annual horror movie marathons! From nostalgic childhood favourites to gory slasher films – here is a list of some of our beloved films for your enjoyment!

Halloweentown

This movie brings me right back to my childhood. Following the adventures of a young girl who discovers she comes from a family of witches – Marnie is in quite a bit of shock when she follows her grandmother back to her home of Halloweentown. A place filled with goblins, skeletons, warlocks, and vampires and Halloween is celebrated every single day.

The Haunted Mansion

Who doesn’t enjoy an Eddie Murphy movie? The Haunted Mansion was a childhood favourite, I still try to rewatch it every single year. The story quickly develops as a realtor couple and their children visit the creepy owner of a huge haunted mansion. Full of comedic relief, this is a movie sure to get you in the Halloween spirit.

 The Conjuring Universe

What could possibly be scarier than movies derived from true stories? The Conjuring films are just that. They are some of the most profitable horror movies ever. This franchise is inspired by the real-life cases of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The movies follow the married couple's attempts to help families possessed by evil supernatural entities. The Conjuring universe has so much to offer – if you enjoyed this movie, be sure to check out its other connected films such as Annabel, The Conjuring 2, Annabel: Creation, The Nun, The Curse of La Llorona and many more!

Halloween

This franchise absolutely deserves a spot on the list. Starting from 1978, there are thirteen of the slasher films surrounding the serial killer and escaped convict Michael Myers. If you’re a fan of the older films, you’ll definitely love the continuation of Jamie Lee’s role as Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise.

As Above So Below

This movie takes place within the spooky setting of the Paris catacombs. The horror/thriller follows an archeologist in search of the philosopher's stone. With mindboggling twists and

turns, jumpscares and more, this movie is filmed as a documentary much like The Blair Witch Project. As a lesser-known movie of the bunch, I highly recommend it!

Fear Street Trilogy

Despite being a relatively new Netflix release, these three movies have become some of my all-time favourites. Being a mix of both the slasher and horror genres – if you love intense, gory films, this trilogy is perfect for you. The fast-paced story revolves around a group of high school students from the town of Shadyside. The group of friends encounters supernatural evils and several killers out to massacre the town. It’s a wonderful new interpretation of the horror/slasher franchise that has been long overdue!

It

If you are a Steven King fan like myself – this movie is a must-see. A group of misfits in the town of Derry Maine are haunted by an ancient evil that preys on young children. Pennywise the clown returns every 27 years to wreak havoc on the town and its young inhabitants. (Fun fact, this movie was recreated after the 1990 miniseries, 27 years later… Spooky!)
