Lets Talk About Dates

By Victoria Gonzalez

February 14th — a day dedicated to love, sugar, flowers, and cheesy outward expressions of romance. It is a day filled with affection, kind gestures, and intimacy, celebrated worldwide. Valentine’s Day is heavily associated with gift giving (which is fun and exciting), but planning out an evening is personal, thoughtful, and, most importantly, memorable. To inspire you this Valentine’s Day, I’ve compiled a list of special and unique date ideas that you can carry out for that special person. Regardless of whether you decide to stay in or venture out, all that matters most is the recognition and appreciation of the person you love!

Staying In: 1. Cooking/Baking Together. Making dinner with your partner is a beautiful, intimate way to spend time together. This Valentine’s Day, find a new recipe, go grocery shopping together, and enjoy a candle-lit dinner from the comfort of your own home. 2. Paint-Night. If you’re searching for a creative and unique date idea, a paint night is a way to go! Gather cheap paints, canvases, and wine, and you’re completely set for a delightful evening. Of course, you can use your significant other as your muse.3. Movie Marathon Takeout, cozy blankets, and snacks are all essential when carrying out a movie marathon with your significant other. Whether you like romcoms, horror movies, or sci-fi, this is a comfy, sweet date that will always be successful. Going Out: 1. Trip to the Bookstore If you and your partner love to read, going to a bookstore and picking out novels for one another makes for a beautiful date. You can drink coffee, read and chat for hours — it is special, personal, and different from your typical date. 2. Cocktails and Dancing: This is always a go-to Valentine’s date, so it has to be included. Getting all dressed up and dancing with your significant other is a great way to celebrate love. There are also many cocktail recipes you can try out at home to avoid overspending! 3. Scenic Drive. Initially, it may seem unexciting, but taking a drive together is oddly romantic! You can have a drive-thru dinner, listen to podcasts and music, and just park and talk. It is also a fun way to explore the city and find new spots to eat, shop and walk around. Though Valentine’s Day is typically associated with couples, it is also a day to declare your love and admiration for the friends and family that surround you. It is a day of positivity, heart-shaped foods and stuffed animals – a celebration made for all people. Express your love for platonic friendships, parental figures, siblings, pets, and yourself! Whether single or taken, use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to celebrate kindness, self-love and the relationships you value above all else.
