Our teams are in the final stretch of their seasons. It is very bittersweet as the playoffs are approaching, and the last home games of the season just came and went. Here is the weekend recap for February 3rd and 4th. Women's basketball has had a spotlight season, with a record of 15-2 after this weekend. They had two close games against Lakeland, and they ended with a split after losing at home by 8 points on Friday and coming back to win it on Saturday by 5 points. The player of the game was Kaelyn Bryks on Friday night. Kaelyn scored 20 points and had five rebounds, working hard to close the point gap. Saturday night Maddie Murdoch was the player of the game, playing lockdown defense with seven rebounds and four steals. It is fitting that these two girls led their team this weekend, as they are also the two graduating players this year. On the Men's side, they had a close battle this weekend, and unfortunately, they fell short to the Lakeland Rustlers losing both games. They lost by five points on Friday, as the final score was 86-91. Remarkably, player of the game Yaadvir Dhaliwal scored 33 of those points. The Thunder men's team had another close run the next night at Lakeland, and Kaleb DeKlerk was named player of the game with 17 points. The Men's Basketball record now stands at 5-12. Same court but a different sport: Women's Volleyball also played hard this weekend against Lakeland. On Friday night, their team was down at Lakeland, and they had a tough loss to the rustlers 0-3. Tanisha Cronin was a game leader with five kills and was named player of the game. The next night the player of the game was Emma Thompson, with seven kills and two digs. Unfortunately, the Thunder could not come out with a win this weekend, but they had two very exciting games. The Thunder men's volleyball also fell to the Lakeland Rustlers on Friday. It was again a hard-fought match, and Van Tooke received player of the game. On Saturday night, the Thunder men's team came out strong and won the first set against the Rustlers. In the end, the Rustlers came out on top, but this game definitely kept the fans on their toes. Senior player Wyatt Turnbull, with 13 kills, won player of the game that evening. On the Ice, Men's hockey had two tight games against the second-place team in the league, SAIT. The score was 5-4 for SAIT on Friday night, with game leader Grayson Reid scoring two of those goals. On Saturday night Captain Brandon Wallis received player of the game with one of the two goals in the 4-2 game. Men's hockey will be back at Clareview next Friday, the 17th, for some more entertaining games.
