Thunder Women's Soccer: 2024 Season Preview

A new season is on the horizon for Thunder Women’s Soccer, but the goal of past seasons still remains, win an ACAC Championship.

A nationally ranked program last season, the women’s soccer team has a new leader at the helm who’s looking to find the right mix to build a winner when it matters most. “I’m really looking forward to this season with this squad” first year head coach Gadeer Sobh added.
“We have a great group who’s extremely hungry and motivated and we can’t wait to outwork the competition.”

Taking a look at the roster, many will need to step up and fill roles left by 7 graduating seniors, 5 of them being all-conference players last season. The team is not without top talent, as reigning CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year Vanessa Pietramala is coming back for her fourth year, while third year strikers Abigael Burton and Makkayla Agar look to continue their dominance on the pitch.

The team will have plenty of new faces, with 9 rookies joining the squad. While it’s still early, look for this rookie crop to continue the tradition of excellence that has been this program's calling card.

“We can't wait for the season to start.” Agar commented. “We have so much talent on this roster with our returning players as well as our new additions. We’re a hardworking group and we’re excited to take on the competition as a united team.”

Thunder Women’s Soccer take the field for their home opener on Saturday, September 7th, at 12:00PM at Strathcona Athletic Park against Portage College.
